Heaven & Hell The Biblical View

Heaven & Hell Introduction The Nature of Man The Death State Hell The Popular Doctrine The Bible Doctrine Heaven The Popular Doctrine The Bible Doctrine Objections What Happens to us when we die

The Nature of Man (1) Genesis 2:7 – Man is a creature formed from the dust - “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living creature.” Psalm 104:29 – Man lives by the life power of God (God’s breath and spirit) – “Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.” Eccl. 3:18-20- When the life power of God is removed man, like the beast perishes – “I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.”

The Nature of Man (2) James 4:14 “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is 1 even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and 2 then vanisheth away.” 1 Seeing man’s life is in God’s control, he cannot presume to make future plans with any certainty. Life is not naturally, man’s eternal possession. 2 Man and the hundreds of generations that have come and gone are just like the vapour of steam, which appears so tangible but disipates leaving no trace of its existence LIFE AS NOW POSSESSED IS NOT EVERLASTING

The Death State Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10 5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. In death man is: Unconscious Knows nothing It is as though he had never lived

What does Hell look like? Who is there? The Hell of the Bible is one of these two pictures. Do you know which one? You may be surprised! Hell Fire – The Popular Doctrine

The Popular Doctrine Falls It depends on the false teaching of the immortality of the soul The wicked die and corrupt in the grave SATAN is not the popular evil being according to the Bible Gods character is denied: If God is the merciful Being of order, justice and harmony of Scripture, how is it possible that with all His foreknowledge and power, He can permit the majority of the human race to be eternally tortures?

Heaven – The Popular Doctrine

Objections Matthew 5:12 “Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” If the reward is in heaven, then there are two possibilities: a) The righteous go to heaven to obtain it b) The reward comes from heaven to the righteous (here on earth) Matthew 16:27 – “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”

Objections 1 Peter 3:19 “By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;” When Jesus died he did not preach to men in hell ‘Spirits in prison’ is an expression for a person in bondage to sin and death. Prison has this association in the following passages:- Isaiah 42:6,7; Isaiah 61:1; Ephesians 2:1+2

The Hope of the Resurrection Acts 4:2 “The Apostles preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.” Phil 3:11 “If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.” (Paul) Hebrews 11:35 “were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:” Acts 1:11 “men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

What happens to us when we die? “Who will render to every man according to his deeds:” (Romans 2:6)
