7 Organizing Cart or Shelving Books You must pay attention to the spine labels! –First separate the different type of books. (example: FIC, E, Moving UP, Historical Fiction, Non-Fiction, or Biography) –Then you alphabetize all but Non-Fiction Books. –Non-Fiction have Numbers on the spines and are put in number order.

8 Remember the Webcat Tutorial?? Now find the books with the call number 796.332

9 Fiction Books Here are the 4 different sections for Fiction books –Easy Fiction: E All Fiction chapter books: FIC ALL Moving up section: –Will have a Moving up sticker at the top of the spine. Historic Fiction: –Will have a Historic Fiction sticker right above the spine label. It will have a colored stripe and should be shelved on the shelf with others that have the same stripe.

10 Non-Fiction & Biography The books with the numbers on the spine labels are non-fiction books. These are placed in number order. –If several books have the same number you would then put the books alphabetically by author’s last name. (this info will also be on the spine label) –Example (the shelf may look like this): 248.1 HAR 249.3 ASC 249.3 BEL 249.3 STO 253.7 HAV State & Country books: –Are separated from regular non-fiction books and shelved alphabetically by Country or State. –These are located at the end of the non-fiction section. Biography books: – B LIN –They are organized alphabetically by subject’s last name. “LIN” is the first 3 letters on Lincoln.
