Whisky or whiskeyis a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Different grains are used for differentvarieties, including barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and corn. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, made generally of charred white oak. Whisky is a strictly regulated spirit worldwide with many classes and types. The typical unifying characteristics of the different classes and types are the fermentation of grains, distillation, and aging in wooden barrels. 4 One could make the connection between The Godfather movies and this drink which uses the sweet Italian liqueur, amaretto, and the robust, hard flavors of a smooth Scotch. Appropriately, the Godmother is a little softer with vodka. I like this one because it is a slightly more complex Scotch on the rocks but it doesn't ruin or overpower the whisky.

Taste the Big Apple without leaving home with this whiskey and lemon cocktail. The New York Cocktail is a thick, sweet drink that goes well with fruit and chocolate desserts. Premium Canadian whiskey is the perfect, light blended whiskey for this drink as it's not too sweet, nor too robust.

This lowball cocktail has the hunter in mind, what with whiskey, brandy and a hint of cherry, it is a perfect way to relax after a day of hiking through the woods or staking out a deer trail. For the lady hunters there is also a slightly more delicate version, the Huntress Cocktail.

Brandy (from Brandywine, derived from Dutch Brandywine—"burnt wine") is a spirit produced by distilling wine. Brandy generally contains 35–60% alcohol by volume (70–120 US proof) and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, some are colored with caramel coloring to imitate the effect of aging, and some brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and coloring. Brandy is also produced from fermented fruits other than grapes, but these products are typically named beaux-de-vie, especially in French. In some countries, fruit flavoring or some other flavoring may be added to a spirit that is called "brandy".

Brandy Alexander is a sweet, brandy- based cocktail consisting of cognac and crème de cacao that became popular during the early 20th century. It is a variation of an earlier, gin-based cocktail called simply an Alexander. Ingredients: 1 Oz Brandy 1 Oz Crème de Cacao (brown) 1 Oz fresh cream Ingredients: 1 Oz Brandy 1 Oz Crème de Cacao (brown) 1 Oz fresh cream

A sweetened dairy-based beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, and whipped eggs (which gives it a frothy texture). Brandy, rum, whisky, bourbon, vodka, or combinations of liquors are often added. The finished serving is often garnished with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon or nutmeg. Ingredients: 1 cup brandy 1/4 cup rum 6 large eggs (lightly beaten) 3/4 cup sugar 2 cups milk 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 2 cups whipping cream Ingredients: 1 cup brandy 1/4 cup rum 6 large eggs (lightly beaten) 3/4 cup sugar 2 cups milk 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 2 cups whipping cream

Gin is a spirit which derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries. From its earliest beginnings in the Middle Ages, gin has evolved over the course of a millennium from a herbal medicine to an object of commerce in the spirits industry. Today, the gin category is one of the most popular and widely distributed range of spirits, and is represented by products of various origins, styles, and flavor profiles that all revolve around juniper as a common ingredient juniper berries Gin

Another classic and probably the most popular gin cocktail. A gin and tonic is the ideal way to enjoy the the unique flavor profile of gin and the juniper berries that give it this distinguishing taste.

This infamous drink could probably top the list of best gin cocktails…heck, it could top just about any list of best cocktails just based on its potency. The classic recipe mixes equal parts gin, vodka, tequila, triple sec, sweet and sour with a splash of cola. So if you want a nice, stiff drink definitely order up a Long Island!

This gin cocktail mixes gin, club soda, sour mix (or, if you can find it, Tom Collins mix) and is finished with a sugar rim and fruit garnish.

If you want a drink that says sophistication then you have to try a martini, the first drink on our list of best gin cocktails. There are hundreds of variations on the classic martini which is gin with a touch of dry vermouth; our favorite being a dirty martini – the classic with a hint of olive brine.

is a distilled beverage composed primarily of water and ethanol, sometimes with traces of impurities and flavorings. Vodka is made by the distillation of fermented substances such as grains, potatoes, or sometimes fruits or sugar.

Vodka is a spirit that was virtually unknown in the United States prior to the 1940s. Traditionally prepared vodkas had an alcoholic content of 40% by volume.[citation needed] Today, the standard Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Latvian and Lithuanian vodkas are 40% alcohol by volume (ABV) or 80 proof. The European Union has established a minimum of 37.5% ABV for any "European vodka" to be named as such. Products sold as vodka in the United States must have an alcoholic content of 30% or more. For homemade vodkas and distilled beverages referred to as "moonshine", see moonshine by country.

Vodka is traditionally drunk neat in the vodka belt countries of Eastern Europe and around the Baltic Sea. It is also commonly used in cocktails and mixed drinks, such as the Bloody Mary, Screwdriver, Sex on the Beach, Moscow Mule, White Russian, Black Russian, vodka tonic, and in a vodka martini.

Three-quarters fill a glass with ice cubes. Add 30mls (1 1/2 tbs) chilled vodka and about 60mls (1/4 cup) chilled tomato juice to almost fill glass. Add a lemon slice, 1 tbs lemon juice Holbrooks Worcestershire Sauce. Stir in a pinch each of sugar, celery salt and ground black pepper and a dash of' Tabasco Sauce to taste. Add a celery stick to glass.

History:"In the dimly lighted bar of the sleek Park Hotel, Turkish intelligence agents mingle with American engineers and Balkan refugees, drinking the latest Yankee concoction of vodka and orange juice, called a 'screwdriver'." The drink got its name because the American engineers surreptitiously added vodka to small cans of orange juice and stirred the mixture with their screwdrivers

Juice from one orange 2 ounces good-quality vodka Splash of soda Thin orange slices, for garnish Combine the fresh orange juice and vodka in a double rocks glass. Fill with ice and finish off with a splash of soda. Garnish with orange slice.

Add ice to glass pour in shot of vodka add peach shnapps mix with orange, cranberry and raspberry Serve with an ubrella and a mixer stick and a fancy straw and an orange slice on side of glass this one is gorgeous can't believe you don't already have it on here!

Put 4-6 ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the vodka and lime juice over the ice and shake well. Half fill chilled highball with remaining ice cubes and strain the cocktail over them. Top up with ginger beer and decorate with slice of lime.

A White Russian is a classic creamy cocktail that is made with vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream, milk or half and half. It is typically served in an Old-Fashioned (or rocks) glass over ice. The vodka and coffee liqueur are first poured into a glass that has been filled with ice, and then the drink is topped off with milk or half and half. The finished drink is usually not stirred, as the dark Kahlua and the vodka should rest on the bottom of the glass below the milk or half and half.

Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in oak barrels. Rum can be referred to in Spanish by descriptors such as ron viejo ("old rum") and ron añejo ("aged rum"). sugarcane RUM

The Blue Hawaii is atropical cocktail made of rum, pineapple juice, Cura çao, sweet and sour mix, andsometimes vodka as well. It should not be confused with the similarly named Blue Hawaiian cocktail that contains creme of coconut instead of sweet and sour mix.

For the condiment, see Mojo (sauce). For the unincorporated area in the U. S., see Mojito, NewJersey. Mojito is a traditional Cuban highball. Traditionally, a mojito is a cocktail that consists of five ingredients: white rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime juice, sparkling water and mint. The original Cuban recipe uses spearmint or yerba buena, a mint variety very popular on the island. [citation needed] Its combination of sweetness, refreshing citrus and mint flavors is intended to complement the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear highball a popular summer drink. The cocktail has a relatively low alcohol content (about 10 percent alcohol by volume).

The piña colada (Spanish: piña, pineapple + colada, strained) is a sweet, rum-based cocktail made with rum, cream of coconut, and pineapple juice, usually served either blended or shaken with ice. It may be garnished with a pineapple wedge, a maraschino cherry or both. The piña colada has been the official beverage of Puerto Rico since 1978.

Tequila (Spanish pronunciation: [te ˈ kila]) is a distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant, primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 kilometers (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the western Mexican state of Jalisco.

The margarita is a Mexican cocktail consisting of tequila mixed with Cointreau or similar orange-flavored liqueur and lime or lemon juice, often served with salt on the glass rim. It is the most common tequila- based cocktail in the United States. The drink is served shaken with ice (on the rocks), blended with ice (frozen margarita), or without ice (straight up).

The Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail made in two different ways, the original (tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and soda water) and the more popular concoction (tequila, orange juice, and grenadine syrup). Originally served at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, where it was created by Gene Sulit in the 1930s or 1940s, the cocktail is named for the way it looks after it has been poured into a glass. The denser ingredients (cassis or grenadine) settle, creating gradations in color that mimic a sunrise. The more popular version was invented by Bobby Layoff and Billy Rice at the Trident restaurant in Sausalito, California in the early 1970s.
