Welcome to Midtown Vineyard!

“Emotions Held Hostage” Gal. 5:16-21, 24

Yet to all who received him [Jesus], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— (John 1:12) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. (Eph. 2:8-9)

Those who belong to Christ have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. (Galatians 5:24)

“… continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. (Phil 2:12-13)

The acts of the sinful nature [flesh] are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

- enmity among people; extremely hostile thoughts and actions against another person, race or group.

Discord: strife; division bred from envy or rivalry, and wanting to control.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. (Eph 4:2-3)

Jealousy: a self-centered zeal that resents the good another person enjoys; so bitter that one might actively seek to harm the other person.

“There’s always someone prettier than you, and always someone uglier than you. There’s always someone smarter than you, and always someone dumber than you. So get over yourself!” (Jean Lindgren)
