1 IN SUPPORT OF STUDENT INVOLVEMENT IN THE COURSE TRANSFORMATION PROGRAM Senate Resolution 1012

2 Background Program began in Summer 2010  Office of the Provost Targeting large undergraduate courses Departments apply for grants to redesign courses Technology-enhanced learning

3 Purpose of Program Promote engaged and critical inquiry models of teaching and learning Support increased attention to the development of foundational academic skills and core concepts Improve student learning outcomes Increase instructional efficiency and productivity; and Improve student success while advancing educational excellence

4 Examples of Technology-Enhanced Learning Improved representation and presentation of course content, including web-based activities designed to augment in-class instruction Targeted assessment of student progress and learning outcomes Web-based assignments or simulations designed to promote practice and mastery of new skills and concepts

5 Examples of Technology-Enhanced Learning Learning activities not practicable within traditional classrooms Increased collaborations between students and instructors Web-based tools to support learning communities of students

6 Purpose of Legislation Formalize student involvement in the application selection process Provide access point for faculty members seeking student input while developing curriculum Create mechanism for student involvement in the evaluation part Encourage sharing of ideas and collaboration

7 Resolved/Summary Support the program Encourage faculty collaboration Student involvement in the selection process  At least one member on the CT Selection Committee from the college of a currently, redesigned course  Appointed by the council

8 Resolved/Summary Senate will provide an access point for faculty seeking student input  Provide a form for faculty to fill out and turn in  Senate will coordinate with the relevant council to assemble focus group Student member(s) on the CT Selection Committee will be responsible for formulating questions for surveys in conjunction with the rest of the committee

9 Resolved/Summary Senate will work with relevant college councils to host a forum in which faculty can share their successes with the program  Allows student interaction and comments  Allows faculty to share techniques and methodologies with other interested faculty members
