3 Restoring Prairie Grass! Questions... I-Where is prairie grass being restored? II-What things can help prairie grass grow? III- How can we restore prairie grass?

4 I-Where is prairie grass being restored? I-Prairie grass is being restored in very many places. These places are: University of Wisconsin, Curtis and Greene Arboretum, Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, Morton Arboretum, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.

5 II-What things can help prairie grass grow? II-There are many different things that can help prairie grass grow. These are ways to help prairie grass grow: Prairie grass needs well drained soil. Prairie grass needs medium to high fertilizing levels. While spreading the seed pods, the person planting may want to spread wild flower seed pods with it. This gives bugs & animals a better habitat to live in.

6 III- How can we restore prairie grass? There are many steps on how to restore prairie grass I-Prepare site for prairie grass. II-Prairie seeds need to have high quality, and should originate within 200 miles of the place planting the prairie grass seed pods. (Prairie grass seeds should be cold stratified before planting). III-Some planting methods include drilling the seeds into the ground, broadcasting them, or transplanting it from a green house IV-Fire- Restored places should be burned regularly and often every year. Opinions are different on the advantages and disadvantages of springtime or fall season burned.

7 END If prairie grass went extinct the world would lose a irreplaceable Eco- system. Prairie grasses are important to the environment and the world.
