Flew French fighters in the Battle of France. Flew to Algeria, then England to join the RAF. Assigned to the 312 th. 312 th was formed in September, 1940 of Czech pilots. Flew Hurricanes, then Spitfires. Three combat tours. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Returned to Czechoslovakia, then the RAF.

20 The Battle of Britain Billy Fiske Pilot Officer William Meade Lindley Fiske III. Born in New York to wealthy parents. Educated at Trinity College Cambridge. Olympian (bobsled) and race car driver. Dillon, Reed & Co., met members of 601 Sqdn. Met Rose Bingham, the former Countess of Warwick. July 14 through July 20, 1940; introduction to the squadron. 42 sorties in 27 days. Buried at Boxgrove.
