7 7 What are your community’s resources?

8 8 Who currently provides support to Caregivers? Look for the Information Centre in your area  May be joined with Volunteer Information or  May be a stand alone  It will have: Directory of community organizations, institutions, resources and services Depth of knowledge of community

9 9 Now the search for potential partners/stakeholders is on! Make a list of community agencies and organizations in your area Resource map helps (sample form)

10 10 Sample Form Community Resource Mapping: Identifying partners Region/Branch_____________________ Task: To identify regional partners and how they contribute. Objectives: To increase our resources for reaching participants. Process: 1. Brainstorm potential partners (e.g. individuals, organizations, initiatives, etc.) to include in the mapping process. 2. Identify what each partner brings to the table: their self-interest, how will they help us to reach our target audience, and their role in the process. 13 13 What’s in it for them? Do they provide support or services to caregivers? Do they provide educational opportunities in the community? Are they involved in community asset building?

14 14 Make initial contact Go to a decision maker (ED, manager or supervisor) A phone call is better than an email Use your connections!

15 15 Elicit involvement Set up a face to face meeting Share the Neighbours Helping Neighbours tool kit Discuss what a partnership can bring to both Follow up with an email and link to all resources (VON Canada website)

17 17 Work smart and think big Go for the Inner Service Club in your area  Represents all service clubs, you speak once, you speak to them all!

18 18 Think outside your circle Housing Authority Community Development Council Volunteer and Information Vocational Support Services Organizations that support challenged individuals

19 19 Characteristics of a social innovator Understands the ‘who’, it’s just as important as the ‘how’ Thinks and act like a movement Convenes others around a common purpose Communicates effectively Removes structural barriers Utilizes market forces
