2 Surprise attack at Pearl Harbor

3 When On December 7, 1941 the Japanese Navy attacked America in Hawaii.

4 Destruction The U.S. Pacific fleet was destroyed at Pearl Harbor

5 Losses Four American battleships were destroyed and sunk in the harbor.

6 Results 188 U.S. planes were destroyed and more than 3400 military personnel were killed in this attack. The US declared war on Japan, entering World War II.

7 Surprise attack on 9/11

8 Planes Hijacked Members of Islamic Terrorist Group Al Qaeda hijacked four planes.

9 Planes Crashed They crashed the planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

10 World Trade Center The first two planes flew directly into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center.

11 Pentagon The third plane flew into Pentagon and smashed one wing of the government ’ s military headquarters.

12 Flight 93 The fourth plane, Flight 93, went down in Pennsylvania. The passengers kept the plane from being used to crash into the White House.

13 Effects Almost 3000 people died in this attack. President Bush and the US Congress went to war in Afghanistan, where Al Qaeda was based.

14 Responsible Person The leader of Al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden was responsible for this attack. Bin Laden was finally killed by US special forces in Pakistan.
