Plant life Animal life Types of Wetlands How to help. Dangers to wetlands. Wetlands By Brandon March 21, 2005 and its importance Credits

Types of Wetlands The four types of wetlands are Marsh: an inland area inundated with 1-6 feet of water, containing a variety of perennials rather than trees, as in swamps. Swamps are slow moving streams, rivers or isolated depressions that host trees and some shrubs. Bog A bog is a peat-accumulating wetland. Prairie Pothole A prairie pothole is a wetland area found in the northern Great plains.

Importance of Wetlands Wetlands release vegetative matter into rivers which helps feed fish in the rivers. Wetlands prevent flooding by holding water much like a sponge.

Dangers To The Wetlands Wetlands are in danger because people are building buildings and houses. People are also are throwing trash and creating pollution.

Plant In The Wetlands Examples of wetland plants: soft-stemmed plants Grasses hardwood trees Mosses Plants help the wetlands by: Slowing the flow of water Taking out impurities from the water If the wetlands are destroyed, all the plants would die.

Animal Life in the Wetlands Examples of Animal Life: A sand hill crane lives in a mash. Herons live in wetlands. Beavers live in the wetlands. Insects and shrimp live in the wetlands. The animals need the wetlands: Because they provide food. The wetlands provide shelter for the animals.

What can we do to help We can help the wetlands by making laws to protect them. We can turn our wetlands into National Parks so their plants and animals will be protected. We can strengthen the Clean Water Act.
