3. Signs of Chemical Reactions
Gas formation
bubbles
Energy change
Light, heat, electricity
Solid formation
Precipitate- solid in solution
Color change
Bleach, leaves
* These are not always present….sometimes they are not visible

4. Change in Properties
Signs do not guarantee that a chemical reaction is happening
Example: boiling water
Change in properties is the only way to be sure that a chemical reaction has occurred!!

5. Breaking and Making Bonds
Bonds of starting thing must break
Movement and energy
Atoms rearrange
New bonds form
**new bonds= new properties
