2 How to create a fire  The rapid reaction of fuel and oxygen creates fire.  Fuel has to be heated to create a fire. The three ways to stop a fire is… 1.Try cooling the fire 2.Cut off the supply of oxygen 3.Trap the combustion so it would not be able to react with the oxygen.

3 Classes of Fires  Class A) Are typical house fires and normally the burning of a wood structure, Water is normally used to put out a Class A fire.  Class B) Is where the burning substance is a liquid or gas. A stream of water can spread the fire.  Class C) is a fire started by An energized electrical circuit. It cannot be put out by WATER and use a CO2 fire extinguisher  Class D) Water can be a source of oxygen for a class D fire, which a metal is burning. Most effective way to put it out is to use dry powder.

5 Chemicals that can put out a fire  Sodium hydrogen carbonate creates carbon dioxide, when carbon dioxide is shown to heat it will help cut off the oxygen supply to the fire.  2NaHCO 3 + heat  Na 2 CO 3 (s) + H 2 O(g) + CO 2 (g)

6 Composites  Cars have been getting _____ in weight over the years.  Composites is material that is less dense then metal and much more stronger. lighter

7 Composites  Composites are created by enclosing fibers into a plastic base.  The fibers could be either glass, synthetic fibers like nylon and graphite.  Composites can also absorb vibrations, shock absorbent, and are not corrosive.

8 Why use composites?  Composites could help with tennis because people can make tennis rackets much more stronger and lighter.  Composites can be built for cars too because when they absorb vibrations it can help for a smoother car ride.  Also since composites are strong it can protect the passengers more better.
