AFPR : Association Fabrication & Prototypage Rapide Rapid Manufacturing & Prototyping Association FDM working group : « Direct Metal & Ceramics Manufacturing » working group

FDM working group D irect M etal Fabrication Created in december 2005 Goal : To contribute to the use of materials and processes for direct manufacturing with respect to quality constraints from industry. How? Materials and processes qualification of depending on the standards applied in each domain (industry). Standardization of Direct Manufacturing by formalizing the best practices (tools/materials/processes)

The challenges of Direct Manufacturing  Economical challenges:  Reduction, even suppression, of fixes costs  Time - to - market reduction  Customized manufacturing  Business stakes:  Extend the market beyond Rapid Prototyping  Move to industrial production  Keeping Additive Manufacturing on the market

Relevant Technologies  Selective Powder Sintering  Using laser  Using electron beam Machines (dense material): Arcam Concept Laser EOS * MCP-HEK * Phenix Systems * Trumpf * * Available within the FDM group Source : Phenix Systems

Selective Powder Sintering Technology CAD files Machine controller Finishing operation Powder deposition Powder platform 123 Selective Sintering Technology Source : Trumpf

Concerned Technologies  Selective Powder Injection and melting by laser using coaxial nozzle Machines : Optomec * POM Trumpf * * Available within the FDM group Source : ENISE

AFPR 2005 Trophies As examples of patricular interests of these technologies Best PartBest Technology ENISE Multimatérial parts manufactured by the DIPI laboratory at ENISE with a PM 100 machine from Phenix Systems. Materials: Steel 904L + Cu/Sn CLFA & ENSMP parts manufactured by the CLFA Fraunhofer ILT and the Center of Materials P.M. Fourt at ENSMP with a TrumaForm LF 250 from TRUMPF. aluminum TiAl6V4

Thematic groups of the FDM working group   Technologies group This group deals with the information exchanges and work related to direct manufacturing technologies : Selective Projection or Melting. The work content is related to the different technologies of the machines, to their capability in terms of materials, geometry, … and also to the process control technics and prediction of part quality.   Materials group This group focuses its activity on the materials used in the additive manufacturing technologies, especially on powders. The supply of the feedstock materials is an important issue to consider, as an aspect fully integrated to the manufacturing chain.   « Call for projects » group This group is in charge of monitoring, collecting and transfering information to the working group members about call for projects related to direct manufacturing at regional, national, european or international levels.

The members of the FDM working group  CEP  CETIM  CLFA Fraunhofer ILT  CNRS-INPL – ENSIC  CRIF  DASSAULT AVIATION  ECOLE CENTRALE DE NANTES  ENISE  ENS Cachan - Antenne de Bretagne  ENSMP - Centre des Matériaux  GERAILP  INITIAL SA  IRCCyN  IREPA LASER  ISMO  LERMPS – UTBM  MB PROTO  PEP  UNPPD dated: 19 septembre 2006
