8. Mentor Text (for Chap. 15):
Ishmael could not believe what happened to him in chapter 15 and could not emotionally handle it. First of all, UNICEF showed up on the scene, and his lieutenant basically set him free (132). The problem is that he did not want to leave now. Second, he was in mental torment throughout the chapter for several reasons. He felt betrayed and struggled with a drug addiction (132). Moreover, he was addicted to violence (133). Third, the most critical situation was the fact that UNICEF ignorantly mixed the military army child soldiers with the RUF child soldiers. The combination was a recipe for disaster (135). Ishmael will have a difficult time coming back because he is a long way gone mentally and emotionally.
