2 Outcomes Principals will understand the continuum of induction from practicum to achievement of tenure Distinguish the pre-service vision and articulate the different pre-service placement models Understand the Grow Your Own effort and the Minneapolis Residency Resident & Cluster Site selection process

3 Induction Continuum Pre-Service Clinical Experience (practicum and student teaching) *supported by cooperating teachers, liaisons, supervisors, administrators. In-Service New teachers (years 1-3) *supported by mentors, induction coordinators, administrators

4 MPS Pre-Service Vision To partner with preparation programs to deepen the clinical experience: 1)Increase K-12 student achievement 2)Accelerate new teacher development 3)Develop teacher leaders 4)Recruit effective, diverse teachers for the MPS context

5 Pre-Service Elements From: 1)Traditional Placement model with no University partnerships 2)Cooperating teacher as a placement 3)Sink or Swim Model 4)No Student Teacher Tracking System 5)No Student Teacher Orientation 6)No Evaluation of Teacher Candidates 7)Limited early contracts offered at will To: 1)Clinical Cluster/Residency Sites and placements models a)University partnerships b)Principal approves all placements 2) Cooperating Teachers as Mentors a) Criteria for the position b) Q Comp stipend c) Training for the position 3)Co-Teaching Model 4)Student Teacher Tracking System 5)Student Teacher Orientations held each semester 6)Evaluation of Teacher Candidates 7)Early Interview and Hire

9 Minneapolis Residency Program Vision: This program’s mission is to create a pipeline to licensure that will diversify the teaching corps and positively impact student achievement. This program will prepare residents to be effective urban teachers through a rich clinical experience aligned to high-quality, contextualized coursework. What? The Minneapolis Residency Program will include a yearlong clinical experience in-between two intensive summers of University of Minnesota coursework (approx. 15 months of preparation) Who? MPS, MFT and the University of Minnesota Principals can support the Minneapolis Residency Program in two ways: 1)Recommending talented MPS employees to apply 2) Becoming a residency cluster site
