3 Thesis Statement In the book The Outsiders, cars were a form of showing your status in society. Wealthy people, such as the Socs, had nice cars. Poor people had worse cars (or no cars).

4 Thesis Statement (continued) Cars have been a status symbol throughout history, ever since they were first created. On with the carz! ^ cars!

5 Cars throughout history… Introduction In early times, the common form of transportation was the horse-drawn carriage.

6 Cars throughout history… The first cars The first cars were extremely expensive, as they were often put together entirely by hand. Only the wealthiest people could afford to buy one of these cars. As a result, wealthy people had nice cars.

7 Cars throughout history… The Model T The first mass-produced car was the Model T. It was first created in 1908. The price for these cars was less than the original cars, yet still expensive.

8 Cars throughout history… After the “T” After the Model T came many new styles of cars.

9 Cars throughout history… New models Next came more advanced models. Nice cars went to wealthy people, and poor cars went to poorer people.

10 Cars today Today there are many models and styles of cars in existence. Though more people have them, they still show societal status. For example, it costs a lot to buy a limousine, so only wealthy people tend to have them.

11 Cars throughout history… Conclusion In conclusion, this is a way of showing financial status. It has been this way from the beginning of modern transportation: The car.
