Great Events – Quest: Definition: “A quest is a long, dangerous journey or mission undertaken by the epic hero. Valorous deeds: “These actions demonstrate the hero’s courage, strength, or virtue and make up most of the action in the narrative.” – Spiderman example Great Events: “Important events from the history or mythology of a nation or culture often provide the backdrop for the epic narrative.” -Iliad takes place during the Trojan War.

6 Epic What are the 5 elements of an epic? “An epic is a long narrative poem that recounts the adventures of a legendary hero in pursuit of a goal of national importance. The hero’s accomplishments reflect the values of his culture and usually figure prominently in the history of mythology of a people.” – Examples: Beowulf, Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Tain, Gilgamesh, Paradise Lost

10 Webquest: Research the Anglo-Saxons 1. Groups will present findings. -They can do this by writing down the answers, explaining pictures, etc. 2. I expect each member to participate. -On the Spiderman slip they will write down what they contributed to the group and whether the other members of their group participated. -This will be graded class work. 3. Questions to Answer: a. Where were the Anglo-Saxons from? When and where did they live? b. What gods did they worship? c. What was Anglo-Saxon life like?
