4. The Meditation: Pastor: Lord, around us are a sea of lost people. Wake us up to their need for you; indeed, wake them up to your love for them. People: Lord, our altars are too often barren. Our church filled with familiar faces, not strangers, not seeking sinners. activities carried on ‘for us’, and altars that are far too often barren. Pastor: We pray for those not on the journey to make heaven home, lost in the sense of moral bearings, lost in terms of meaningful, eternal impact out of their lives – lost. People: We repent that we are often lost in things, lost in themselves, lost in pleasure. For the millions of lost Mongols. Pastor: We pray for the laborers. We pray for resolve to witness. To not exempt ourselves from the task. To go. To send others. But most of all – to pray. We repent, that we have not prayed for the harvest. 5. The Meditation: People: Lord, our eyes have not been wet. Our knees are too smooth. We have not assailed heaven for lost souls as we might have for missing persons – our own lost loved ones. Pastor: Jesus urged us – to see the harvest! To review the inadequate depth of the labor force, and then pray. To earnestly pray. To pray to the Lord of the harvest that he would ‘thrust’ out laborers. People: So, Lord, we pray. We cannot do this – not alone. We cannot go in our own power – propel us by the Spirit out of prayer. Pastor: The Great Commission begins its fulfillment in prayer! Help us to join prayer with obedience, and then see you, God, open doors. Put a ‘go’ in our hearts. Increase in us both compassion and capacity. The need is overwhelming. Resources are inadequate. 6. We pray …. For the sixty separate Mongolian tribes. These descendants of the Mongols, who seven centuries ago, established an empire stretching from SE Asia to Europe - the Yuan Dynasty. We pray for these people who the Europeans called "people from hell" (Tartarus). A tough people, who endured bitter winters, and worshiped the forces of nature, revering moon, stars, sun and rivers. We pray that Christian seeds sown in the years before the dynasty, by the Nestorian missionaries, would come to life. We repent, that we failed the Mongols – that when Kublai Khan called for a hundred missionaries to teach them Christianity, to eradicate the sorcery, to turn the nation to God, we failed at the challenge. We repent that a pagan leader saw more promise for a Christian China than our forebears. “I will be baptized, and all my magnates and barons will do likewise, and their subjects in turn. Then there will be more Christians here than there are in your part of the world." We pray for the small number of Mongol believers – perhaps numbering thousands, still very small – in a population of 7.5 million. About half are now Buddhist.
