2 Project details You will be creating a poetry collection using the following types of poems.

3 Five Senses Poem Formula Line 1: State the topic
Line 2: Tell what the topic sounds like Line 3: Tell what the topic tastes like Line 4: Tell what the topic smells like Line 5: Tell what the topic looks like Line 6: Tell what the topic makes you feel or how it feels

4 Five Senses Poem Example: Problems
They sound like children crying. (sound) They taste of gasoline. (taste) And smell like spinach. (smell) They look like monsters. (sight) They make you feel unwanted . (touch)

10 Color Poem Color (title) 1: What things LOOK the color?
2: What things SOUND the color? 3: What things SMELL the color? 4: How does the color FEEL? 5: What makes YOU FEEL the color? 6: What things TASTE the color? 7: What EXPERIENCES or IDEAS seem that color 8: Can you think of the color PLACES?

11 Color Poem Example Turquoise
Turquoise is magic, manatees, and silly putty. Turquoise is the taste of sherbert. Juicy pears and the desert smell turquoise. A cleared mind makes me feel turquoise. Turquoise sounds of splashing paint and tubas. Turquoise is Yashiro, a calm pool of water, and a coral reef. Painting is turquoise. Making new friends is turquoise. Turquoise is having siblings.

Green Green is apples, markers, and cool. Green is the taste of vegetables. Green smells like grass and rain. Green makes me feel envious. Green is the sound of a lawnmower and a sigh. Green is a garden, forest, and a swamp. Green is renewal. Green is beginning again. Green is spring.

13 Acrostic Formula: Each line of an acrostic begins with a letter of the subject and should describe the subject. Example: Apple picking Umbrella bent by the wind Toasting marshmallows over an open fire Unequaled beauty Many colored leaves North winds chill me to the bone

14 Haiku Formula: A haiku has three lines. Typically, the topic is nature. Line 1 should have five syllables, Line 2 should have seven syllables, Line 3 should have seven syllables. (5-7-5)

17 Rhyming poem This must be at least 6 lines. You must decide which rhyming scheme you are choosing and WRITE IT AT THE END OF EACH LINE AND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. Choices can include the following;

21 Limericks Formula: A limerick is a 5-line poem meant to be humorous. The rhyme pattern is a a b b a with lines 1, 2, and 5 containing 3 beats and rhyming, and lines 3 and 4 having two beats and rhyming.

22 Limericks Example: A flea and a fly in a flue
Were caught, so what could they do? Said the fly, “Let us flee.” “Let us fly,” said the flea. So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

23 Limericks Quick Practice: There once was a pauper named Meg
Who accidentally broke her______. She slipped on the _____. Not once, but thrice Take no pity on her, I _______. (Can you guess which words go in the blanks?)

24 Painted Poetry Painted writing is a way of placing words on paper to give a visual effect to match the feeling of the writing. The shape expresses what the writing is about. Use strong, colorful language to describe the topic of the poem. Remember to think about your five senses.
