2 Ephesians 5 15 Be very careful, then, how you go about living - not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit: 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs; 19 singing and making music with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 being subject to one another in the fear of Christ. 11 Be subject to one another 5:22 Wives, submit to your husbands 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church & gave himself up for her 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord. 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters. 6:9 Masters, treat your slaves in the same way In these examples (from a different culture) Those in positions of power (Masters, Fathers, Husbands) are called to follow the example of Christ in loving their slaves, children and wives as he “gave himself up for the church” Those in positions of weakness (Slaves, Children and Wives) are called to show their trust in the goodness of God by submitting to those who exercise power for their good.
