2 Alcohol (England): – 11-15 year olds, 21% drank in last week Peak 26% in 2001 Mean weekly units, 5.3 in 1990, 11.4 in 2006 Drugs: – Cocaine, 8% increase in use in last year (2006-07) 11.3 million adults have used drugs Ever used: 1 in 2 aged 20-34, 1 in 5 aged 45-59 Sexual Health (UK): – STI new diagnoses up 6% (2006-07) Highest numbers in young people (e.g. 20-34) Largest percentage increases in under 16s and over 45s HPA, 2008; Fuller, 2008; Murphy and Roe, 2007 Setting The Scene……..

6 Alcohol and Regretted Sex 40% of sexually active 13-14 year olds - ‘drunk or stoned’ Young people >2 times as likely to have sex unprotected if drunk (Bellis et al 2008) “If I am drunk and sick then I know I have enjoyed myself” (Female, age 18-20)
