7. 7 Background Retrofit Policy was established in 2002 with the following goals: –To address our citizens’ desire to connect to our central water and wastewater systems –To address potential or existing health hazards –To improve the quality of life of our citizens –To promote economic development of older subdivisions

8. 8 Background Wekiva Study Area was established in 2004 Required FDEP to study water quality standards – Nitrogen reduction – Springs protection 300,000 acres 19,000 septic tanks in OCU service area 2014 State Legislation –$25M for springs protection ADD MAP

9. 9 Background SJRWMD encouraged OC to apply for a grant Retrofit 2,500 septic tanks south of Wekiwa Springs OC requested 100% funding Retrofit 600 septic tanks closest to the springs State has offered 75% funding  Retrofit 380 residential septic tanks State’s grants would cover Design, construction, capital charges, on-site plumbing costs and septic tank abandonments
