4 Shehroze Blooded Back to word wall A whale is a mammal, it is a warm blooded animal. Warm blooded means that their blood temperature does not go up and down when the temperature changes.

5 Shehroze Breach To break clear of water usually head first. When the whale shoots out of the water he splashes on top of the surface. Back to word wall

6 Shehroze Blubber Blubber is the fat inside the whale’s body. It is something under the sea animal’s skin that is thick and keeps the whale warm. Back to word wall

7 Shehroze Species A species is a group of animals that have many features in common. There are at least 75 species of whales. Back to word wall

8 Shehroze Nostril This is the nose of the whale. The whale can use its nostril to get air to breath. Back to word wall

9 Shehroze Ocean An ocean is where sea animals live.The water is salty and it has four different layers. Back to word wall

10 Shehroze Big Big is almost the same as tall. A whale is bigger than a school bus. A blue whale may grow to over 98 feet and weigh more than 20 elephants. Back to word wall

11 Shehroze Tail A tail is on the back of a whale’s body. The whale moves its powerful tail up and down and beats the water with it. Back to word wall

12 Shehroze Ears Ears are the things the whale uses to hear with. Whales have excellent hearing and usually can listen to sound waves in the water. Back to word wall

13 Shehroze Blow Holes Blow holes are the things that whales blow water out of. They need their blowhole to breath water out. Back to word wall

14 Shehroze Teeth Teeth are the things you bite with. Killer whales have real teeth, baleen whales have teeth that look like strings. Back to word wall

15 Shehroze Heavy A whale can weight up to 84 tons. Blue whales are the largest animals that have ever lived. They are even larger than any of the dinosaurs that once roamed the Earth. Back to word wall

16 Shehroze Author’s Note My name is Sheroze Mirza. I am 7 years old. I am in first grade. I wrote about whales because whales are really interesting and I am a whale expert.
