Compare the parliamentary system of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (United Kingdom), the federal system of the Federal Republic of Germany (Germany), and the federation of the Russian Federation (Russia), distinguishing the form of leadership and the role of the citizen in terms of voting and personal freedoms.

The Constitution is called “Basic Law” Representative democracy Operates under a Federal system Power is divided between the Federal and state governments Citizens have the basic rights and freedoms Freedom of Expression Freedom of Religion Equal under the law Offers a Welfare State Meaning it guarantees it’s citizens benefits when they are unemployed, poor, disabled, old, or sick

20 Russia Government System: Federation (Federal) Governed under a constitution Leadership: President is the head of state Elected by the people President selects the prime minister President can break up the Legislature or Federal Assembly Vladimir Putin

2 representatives from each state State appoints the council members Not elected directly by the people Represents the government of the states In charge of approving the President’s choices of people to fill different government jobs

You need to following items: Red, blue and purple colored pencils or crayons, a pencil, 2 sheets of construction paper (not red, blue or purple) Team Positions: Prime Minister or President: Overseas the operation, making sure the group stays on task and completes the assignment accurately (heading done correctly, all bubbles labeled and completely filled in. Citizens: (includes Monarch and President): (rest of the members): Take turns entering the information into the bubbles. Monarch: Checks on the time to make sure they job gets done.
