1 Evaluation Question 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups?

2 George is an ordinary white male in his mid 20’s. He works in a boring office job which isn’t really going anywhere. He gets on with all of his colleagues but lives alone. He spent allot of his childhood being physically and mentally abused by his father. As a result of this he is so sadistic, he enjoys killing people. We wanted to portray him as an ordinary member of society by dressing him in a big coat, black jeans and black shoes to make it seem as if he is an ordinary person living an ordinary life however, because the film is from the perspective of the antagonist, it isn't clear as to whether or not he is the villain. You could potentially draw a comparison between George and the character John Doe in the film Se7en. Initially it seems like there is no reason for the murders however it becomes clearer later on in the plot.

3 Throughout the opening we begin to learn more about George, what he likes to wear, where he likes to relax and you begin to pick up on his habits. We begin to notice that George has a pack of cards and he seems to become agitated when he flicks through the deck and finds either the 'King of Clubs' or the 'Queen of Hearts'. These to cards remind him of his parents, his father a gambler and alcoholic and his mother, a kind an affectionate woman who cared allot for George. These cards triggers George to have flashbacks in which he murdered a young woman because the way he hunted her down was similar to how his father killed his mother however, George thinks that it is his father who killed the young woman so George can't understand why he remembers the event so vividly. The character of George is a very stereotypical of the thriller genre as he seems to 'blend in' to the people around him. Something that is atypical is the fact that he has no perception of the murders which challenges the standard thriller conventions.
