3 Mission Statement Gray Middle School Mission The mission of Gayle Gray Middle School is to: Provide a safe, respectful, and responsible environment in order for students to move toward learning the skills and content necessary for college, career, and life readiness. We believe: 1. All students can learn. 2. Data should inform instruction and curricular strategy. 3.A positive and proactive learning environment minimizes academic and behavioral underperformance. 8 Feeder Schools Elementary Schools:  Mann  New Haven  Erpenbeck  Kelly/Collins (small percentage) All of our Elementary math programs have Accelerated classes and Advanced Classes.

9 Math Curriculum offered at GMS 6 th Grade: Math 6 Accelerated Math 7th Grade: Math 7 Accelerated Math 7 Algebra I 8 th Grade: Math 8 Algebra I Geometry Accelerated Math courses follow Appendix A in the Common Core High school course follow Common Core And Quality Core

10  Very specific standards created to place students in the correct courses  Students are given a handbook with the criteria spelled out for them for the qualifications of each course  Data used  STAR Math results/Scantron results  Previous Course Performance  Teacher Recommendation Placement of Students in Courses

12 Math Enrichment  Extra math class during Enrichment time  Each student rotates through one term of math enrichment  Common Core is taught  Essentially, students receive 7 extra weeks of math instruction per year  Every grade level teaches Common Core for their grade level

13 Intervention  GMS has a full-time RTI math teacher and RTI reading teacher  Tier I students receive interventions in the regular classroom  Tier 2 students have one unified arts class designated for small group intervention and remediation with a teacher using Vmath  Teachers are funded through allocations due to student enrollment  ESS and individual teacher after-school assistance for struggling students

16 Gates Grant  Formative Assessment Lessons incorporated into instruction  Hands-on activities with students as active learners and teachers as facilitators  Students work in pairs or groups  Whole-group discussion and student involvement  Pre-test and post-test to assess learning
