3. THE BIG QUESTION When Mentos are dropped into a soda,which soda will produce a taller geyser ?

4. a. explanation Since all contain carbon dioxide, when Mentos are dropped into them they will produce a geyser of soda. All soda has different amounts of carbon dioxide so they will react differently. I want to see which one will be the highest!

5. HYPOTHESIS I believe that out of all the sodas in the test group, Dr Pepper will produce the tallest geyser. a. I believe that will happen because it has carbon dioxide. The sodas in the test group are: Seltzer (Control), Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke and Crush.

6. INTERESTING FACTS All soda has carbon dioxide Even though seltzer has carbon dioxide it did not have a reaction to the mentos Dr. Pepper is not a cola. Dr. Pepper is a mixture of 23 ingredients Most soda contains caffeine

7. EXPERIMENT MATERIALS 4 ROLLS OF MENTOS Seltzer (control) 2 L. bottle of Crush 2 L. bottle of Sprite 2 L. bottle of Dr. Pepper 2 L. bottle of Diet Coke Mentos geyser Tube Measuring tapeBlue tape A video cameraA cameraPen and paper

8. DETAILS STEP BY STEP To begin measure the garage door placing tape at every foot. Have a friend with the video camera and another with the picture camera Then place the Seltzer in front of the taped door, place the tube on the bottle Then drop 4 mentos into the tube, pull the pin and quickly walk away.

9. Step by Step Do the same with the Crush bottle, the Dr. Pepper, Sprite and Diet Coke. Each time take a picture. Have the entire process video taped. After all is done go inside and watch everything on the video tape and picture.

10. CONTROL The control was Seltzer. I inserted the mentos into the Seltzer at first before any other soda.

11. OBSERVATIONS Seltzer did not react when Mentos were dropped into it Each soda had a different reaction to the Mentos Diet coke had the highest geyser when Mentos were added After a few seconds the soda went flat It was a very fun experiment!

13. ANALYSIS OF DATA The experiment did test my hypothesis because all sodas, except the control, did produce a geyser when Mentos were dropped into it. The tallest geyser was from the Diet Coke. It was over 12 feet!

14. CONCLUSION My hypothesis was not correct. I guessed that Dr. Pepper would produce the tallest geyser. Diet Coke was the winner. If I could do the experiment over, I would change the amount of Mentos dropped into the soda. If I add more Mentos, I believe the soda will spray higher.
