3 Economy China has a socialist economy, meaning that the public can run businesses, but the government controls many aspects of businesses such as income of workers. Major Imports: Machinery/equipment, mineral fuels, plastics, iron, steel, and chemicals Major Exports: Machinery/equipment, textiles and clothing, footwear, toys and sporting goods, mineral fuels. China struggles to combat corruption, and other economic crimes. One of China’s greatest successes is the major amount of exports it trades with the world. 8 Climate China lies mainly in the temperate zone, while the southernmost areas reach into the tropics, and northernmost areas reach just below the arctic circle. Southern China is very wet, and the land dries up as you head north. The northwestern part of China, which is in the Gobi Desert, has less than 2 inches of rain yearly in most areas. 12 Chinese Food One major Chinese food is rice, which is prepared in many different ways, and fish. Many different kinds of fish are consumed, and can also be prepared in different ways. Chopsticks are often used as utensils. Other foods include different types of noodles, vegetables, and other meats (mainly chicken).
