Preparing the Foundation For the Spreading of the Gospel 1 Sponsored by Hand Of Hope Ministries, Inc. Carl & Jennie Heberg handofhopeministries.com

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14 (NIV) The gospel will be spread! 2

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' We can be an active part of the Kingdom of God and spreading the gospel – Or not. 3

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.‘ "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.‘ "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.“ Matthew 25:31-46 4

We are commanded to go and make disciples! Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.“ Matthew 28:18-19 (NIV) 5 Go – is an action word which means to travel, traverse, depart, journey, or walk. Make – is to teach, disciple, lead, instruct Go – is an action word which means to travel, traverse, depart, journey, or walk. Make – is to teach, disciple, lead, instruct

6 But how do we do that? It seems that it is easier to take the gospel to other nations. Why? Because a great deal of preparation and prayer goes into our efforts. Also, the people are hungry – they are desperate – often, they have no where else to turn. Therefore, the gospel is good news!

7 So - how do we reach people for Jesus in our community?  We begin with prayer!  Serious prayer!  Prayer that takes us into the community!  Prayer that changes us!  Prayer that changes our community!  Prayer that is specific and effective!  We begin with prayer!  Serious prayer!  Prayer that takes us into the community!  Prayer that changes us!  Prayer that changes our community!  Prayer that is specific and effective!

8 Praying for Picayune – a proactive plan Picayune has been divided into specific areas Please choose an area and pray specifically for that area. Pray for individuals, families, churches, schools, and businesses. Pray from a distance or “Prayer Walk” or “Prayer Drive” through the community. Get to know the community and the people in it. Pray for all of Picayune and surrounding area. Pray for law enforcement officers, fire and rescue personnel, and utility workers. Pray for hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, and other medical facilities. Pray for an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to someone in that area.

9 Maps and sign-up sheets will be made available along with prayer guides and other helpful materials. Maps and sign-up sheets will be made available along with prayer guides and other helpful materials.

10 Pray against: 1. Religious spirit(s) and a false sense of salvation 2. Spirit of anti-Christ 3. Spirits worshipped and honored by Native Americans and others that previously lived in the area. 4. Anything that is hindering or blocking a person from truly knowing God. 5. The things that keep people from serving God. 6. Hatred against churches, ministries, Christians, pastors and anyone in ministry. 7. Other “gospels” that are being preached. Pray for: 1. People to see the truth concerning the difference between religion and a relationship with God. 2. The Holy Spirit to be the prevailing force. 3. The door to heaven to be opened over Picayune and Pearl River County. 4. A freedom to spread the gospel. 5. The ability to go as the disciples did. 6. People to understand the love God has for them. 7. People to be saved. Pray against: 1. Religious spirit(s) and a false sense of salvation 2. Spirit of anti-Christ 3. 11 11 You will become a part of what you pray for As you spend time praying for your area and get to know the people in it, you will learn of specific things to pray for. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and to make you aware of what to pray for. If you prayer walk or prayer drive your area, you may discover that the Holy Spirit will impress upon you specific things to pray for concerning certain homes or businesses. 12 12 Prayer Walking Walking through a specific area puts Christians in the place where the work needs to be done, where the problems are, and where the people are. While we may recognize that “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Eph. 6:12) we may never really deal with these on a practical level. We can pray from a distance and be effective. We can pray “on site” and be even more effective.

13 ELEMENTS OF A PRAYER WALK PRAISE The Bible proclaims that the very reason we are chosen and delivered from darkness is so that we might declare God’s praises. “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9). PRAYER Prayer targets the specific needs in the lives of individuals, communities and nations. Satan is alive and active in our society. The Bible teaches us many ways to deal with Satan’s attacks and influences. As we declare the name of Jesus, present our needs to God and intercede for others, the evil forces in the heavenly realms must bow down. Praying with the authority God has given us changes the spiritual climate of a household, a neighborhood, a community, a city, even a nation (John 16:33). PROCLAMATION As we proclaim our faith in God and proclaim what Jesus has done, others will also believe in God and look to Jesus as their Savior. By our public proclamation, we witness to His truth and faithfulness and fulfill Psalm 9:11 “Sing praises to the Lord enthroned in Zion, proclaim among the nations what He has done”. 14 14 THE WALK You can prayer walk as an individual or as a group. As an individual: Choose your own time and place and praise, pray, and proclaim. As a group:  Meet as a group at a specific time and place.  Share any known need or prayer requests for the area to be walked through.  Have a short time of instruction. (i.e. How long to walk, who takes what area, how many groups, where to meet at end of walk, etc.)  Walk and pray, sing, dance, shout, praise the Lord.  Have a short meeting after the prayer walk to share experiences and testimonies.  Keep on praying as you go your separate ways.
