6 Sin No More… STEALING  Definition of Stealing:  to take the property of another without permission or right, secretly or by force  the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods or property of another  Legal: to take or appropriate without right or consent and with intent to keep or make use of  thievery, smuggle, burglarize, rip off, rob  Thief, Burglar, Robber, Smuggler, Cheat

8 You Shall Not Steal  Exodus 20:1-17 –  “You shall not steal.”  Exodus 22:1-14 –  “If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.”

9 You Shall Not Steal  Leviticus 19:11-13 –  (11) “You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.”  (13) “You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning.”

27 Example of Achan  Joshua 6:17-19 –  (18) “by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.”  (19) “But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord.”

30 Put Away Stealing & Labor/Work  Ephesians 4:28 –  “Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”

31 Put Away Stealing & Labor/Work  II Thessalonians 3:10 –  “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.”

32 Put Away Stealing & Labor/Work  I Timothy 5:8 –  “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

34 Conclusion  Stealing is sin & we must treat it that way.  Stealing is serious.  Steal involves harming our neighbor.  Stealing separates us from God, from God’s blessings, and from God’s promises.  Stealing will keep us out of heaven.  We are to work with our hands that we may be able to provide for our family & help another in need.  We are to love our neighbor as ourselves and seek to do good to all men.
