8 Leadership of the Prophet A Religious Leader ■ The Prophet taught the Muslims to believe in One God and reject belief in all other gods ■ He showed Muslims how to worship God and establish a close relationship with Him ■ The Prophet received revelation from God for the guidance of his people. This was later compiled in a book – the Qur’an

9 A Social Leader ■ The Prophet established a Muslim community in Madinah based on love and respect for others. He established a pact of brotherhood and set rules for the different communities. ■ He encouraged: - unity and equality - rights of family members, neighbors, friends.. - kindness to others - charity for the poor - justice and fairness - hard work and independence - honesty and reliability

11 Teachings of the Prophet The teachings of the Prophet have been preserved in the Hadith – his sayings. 1) Seeking of knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim, male and female. 2) None of you is a believer unless you like for others what you like for yourselves 3) God does not look at your bodies and outer forms, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.

12 4) Show mercy to the people on earth, and God will show mercy to you 5) He who goes to bed with his stomach full while his neighbor is hungry, is not a believer 6) The learned are the heirs of the Prophets 7) The best of you is the best to his family and I am the best of you all 8) Inappropriate use of the tongue is the greatest calamity for a human being
