4. Revision Chapter 1 – Jonah is called by God to go to Nineveh Modern day Nineveh would be in Mosul (Iraq) God pursues him as he runs Chapter 2 - Jonah sinks to the very bottom of the sea where the roots of the mountains find their origin

He chose the weak things of this world to put the powerful to shame.” (CEV) 1. tumble - retire - sack - disconnect 2. change – transform - convert God is a master and skilful worker

When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.” Observation 3 The truthfulness of the Word of God does not rest in the messenger but in the message itself Dust is a symbol of origin

Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.”
