Selene: Goddess of the Moon and “Mother” of Vampires
Made By: Toni McCray A- Days Period 4

I am known for… Selene, the moon goddess, is known for her countless love affairs. According to the poet Hesiod, Selene was the daughter of Hyperion and Theia, sister of Helios, the Sun and Eos the Dawn. Other sources claim she was the child of Pallas and Euryphaessa. Selene, the eternally beautiful goddess of the Moon, was usually represented as a woman with the moon, often in crescent form on her head and driving a chariot pulled by two white horses. At night, she rose from the ocean and with her chariot and rode through the sky.

Background.

Special ability.. The powers of the moon goddess Selene were derived from her association with the moon. In ancient times, the sun and the moon were often equally powerful deities. The moon was most often depicted as a goddess because the moon appeared to become pregnant and give birth to a new moon each month. As the goddess of the moon, Selene was the patron of the feminine. She was believed to have the power to ease childbirth and inspire love. Selene also was believed to have the power to mask reality and, conversely, to pierce illusion

INTERESTING STORY The Greek moon goddess Selene (known by the Romans as Luna, as in lunatic and lunacy, the madness brought on by the full moon) was very beautiful, long, white, and smooth. She fell in love with a gorgeous young shepherd named Endymion and seduced him. Selene asked Zeus to grant her lover one wish and Endymion wished to sleep forever so that he would not age. His wish was granted and Selene visited him every night. It seems that this arrangement worked out quite well---the pair had fifty daughters. No wonder the moon is associated with fertility.

Quincie Morris Quincie Morris, teen restaurateur and neophyte vampire, is in the fight of her life — or undeath. Even as she adjusts to her new appetites, she must clear her best friend and true love — the hybrid-werewolf Kieren — of murder charges; thwart the apocalyptic ambitions of Bradley Sanguini, the seductive vampire-chef who “blessed” her; and keep her dead parents’ restaurant up and running. She hires a more homespun chef and adds the preternaturally beautiful Zachary to her wait staff. But with hundreds of new vampires on the rise and Bradley off assuming the powers of Dracula Prime, Zachary soon reveals his true nature — and his flaming sword — and they hit the road to staunch the bloodshed before it’s too late.
