Use of ppt… Use of ppt (or some equivalent) is the future. – How to use it well needs to be refined. Use of ppt is new; techniques to be learned Access to ppt notes will be helpful. Better use of animation will be helpful so as to avoid the “splash” of a full slide of equations. Other suggestions are welcome!

What’s “important”? Assumption: everything done in class is “important” at some level or I would not spend time to call it to your attention or to explain it. –Caveat 1: You cannot (will not) be tested on everything (in any course). This does not mean that what does not appear on the test(s) is, therefore, not important.

What’s “important”? Assumption: everything done in class is “important”… –Caveat 2: There are instances where I have explicitly said: “I do not expect you to know this in detail” or some equivalent. This material is for your edification and for the intellectually curious. –Help: I will, however, annotate the slides to indicate the material that you are not expected to “know” or remember in detail, i.e., it will not appear on the test!

My assumptions… 1.You will be an active learning participant in class. 2.You will study the class ppt “notes” outside of class to be sure you understand what is there. 3.You will ask questions about any “in- class” material either in class or after class or in conversation in my office (or wherever!) (e-mail also works at some level..)

More depth… I have been asked to provide more depth for some topics. –I will do that for any topic about which I am asked as I am able. Please just ask…

My pledge… My pledge to you is to work together with you as hard as I am able to help you to achieve your educational objectives so that in the end, you emerge well educated and well prepared to address your future and to help to make this learning experience as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. Together… …to work together with you - implies you and I need to be partners in this exercise - that implies good communication.
