MGD Advisory Group Meeting Sydney 5 th March 2015
2
Agenda Mission – to advise on the way forward. Issues: 1 MGD implications of country experience discussions 2 MGD2 and the Portal 3 Modules 4 Outline of future work
3
Outcome of country experience discussions Main mode of MGD interaction with countries via agencies and programmes – SilvaCarbon, UN-REDD. MGD a source document for this Continuing need for an anchor – what’s operational, linked to international agreement and IPCC methods Portal and modules give flexibility Need for advice on sensible applications for technologies Useful to have end-to-end flowchart In–country institutional basis crucial (coordination, volatility, absorptive capacity…). Increase advice… Co-benefits linkage (wider forest values…)

MGD2 and the Portal Existing MGD is version 1 – need for update foreseen, taking account of experience. Combination with portal gives access tuned to individual needs linked to security of the MGD foundation document. MGD portal can help the link between pillars of GFOI Version 2 provides opportunity for -Logical synergy with portal -updates on institutional arrangements -strengthen guidance on integration -more complete material on statistical inference (emission factors as well as area data) and uncertainties -Response to country experiences -Integration of modules -Updates from research track -Updated core data availability Proposal – joint production of portal and version 2 according to agreed outline
