19. Delivery When performing a poem, delivery is crucial. Delivery consists of three parts: 1) Body Language 2) Emotion 3) Rhythm Today we are going to look at each of this in detail and practice them. Taylor Mali – “Totally Like Whatever, You Know?”

20. Body Language 93% of communication is non-verbal. An awareness of body language is important in performance. First, we are going to practice raising our awareness and communicative skills by trying to get a partner to say a word using only our body language.

21. Emotion We can use our voices to convey ideas. But we can also use our voices to convey emotion. Ex. No! vs. No… Hello vs. HELLO! Shut up… vs. Shut up! We are going to do another “Get your partner to say…” activity, but this time we are going to try to use our voices to convey emotion. Your partner will guess what emotion you are trying to convey.

22. Rhythm We’ve talked about rhythm before. But, tempo is also an important part of rhythm we did not discuss. You might speak fast or slow for dramatic effect. Pauses can have great effect too.

23. Rhythm Practice Activity: Tongue Twisters For our last activity, we are going to do tongue twisters. However, there is a catch. You are going to be performing them in groups. I will give you a tongue twister, give you time to practice it, and then have you perform it at your table or in front of the class. We will vote on the best performance, and the winners get candy!
