How is the option “with Engineering Practice” beneficial to me?” An internship allows students to develop additional technical and professional skills – the opportunity to put into practice in a real- world environment what they’ve learned in the classroom. Internships can be done over the summer or over the course of a semester – on a part-time or full-time basis.

How do I obtain an internship? Visit the ENG Career Development Office (CDO) for an up-to-date listing of employers offering internships (CDO staff will speak more about this). Directly from an employer you’ve met at a recruiting fair. Referral from a faculty member or peer. Your own online search.

I’ve got an internship, now what do I do? Obtain an offer letter from employer. Complete With Engineering Practice Approval Form. Write proposal in consultation with employer and/or supervisor that describes work to be accomplished during internship and its relevance to your program of study (one page is enough). Meet with your advisor to review job offer, proposal, and obtain advisor’s approval on the form.

…now what do I do? – Slide 2 Bring all documents to GPO (44 Cummington Mall, Room 114). After final approval, student is registered for zero credit course by GPO. International students must complete the ISSO CPT form and make appt. to arrange for CPT/OPT status. Need to bring all documents to appt.; cannot start job until ISSO approves internship.

I’ve finished my internship, now what? Students need to submit a final summary of their internship experience that includes what they learned and how they were able to apply their academic skills to their internship. Students bring the final summary, along with their With Engineering Practice Approval Form, to their advisor for review and approval. The Summary must be submitted to the GPO so that the grade of P/F – Pass/Fail can be posted. If students are graduating in the same semester that they’re completing their internship, they must submit this form 5 days before graduation.
