1 FACS Day at the Capitol Wednesday, February 18, 2015

2 General Information Travel to Atlanta for a day Meet your Georgia Representative or Senator Watch the Georgia General Assembly in action as they consider new legislation Meet your FACS Legislative Aides and learn about the work they are doing in the Capitol This event is free for Students, Faculty, and Staff Lunch and transportation will be provided

3 Tentative Schedule 7:30 a.m.Buses Leave Georgia Center 9:15 a.m.Arrive at the Capitol 10:00 a.m.Photo with Governor 11:00 a.m.House and/or Senate Observation and hearing of the resolution 12:00 a.m.Lunch with various speakers 1:45 a.m.Tour of the Capitol 2:20 a.m.Appointment with Legislators 3:15 a.m.Bus Departs for Athens 5:00 a.m.We should be arriving back in Athens

4 Registration Process Go to http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/fdac-registration to register.http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/fdac-registration Everyone should register, even if you plan to drive yourself. The deadline to register is Friday, February 6, 2015 If you do not register, you are not guaranteed lunch or a seat on the bus If you are planning on riding the bus, make sure you check the box If receiving course credit, remember to indicate which class and course or you may not receive credit.

5 Transportation If you choose drive to yourself, you will have to pay for parking in Atlanta and still need to register online so we can include you in the count for lunch Directions to the Capitol can be found at http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/fdac http://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/fdac If you choose to ride the bus, we will be departing form the Carlton Street side of the Georgia Center promptly at 7:30.

6 Appointments with Legislators You will be given a sheet worksheet to fill out with information about your Georgia Senators and Representatives The information can easily be found online on how to schedule an appointment with a legislator or senator. Appointments should be made by Friday, February 6, 2015 The time available for the appointments is between 2:20 and 3:00 p.m.

7 Appointments with Legislators After you make your appointment, go to the website listed on the worksheet and record it there We are trying to keep groups of students together so that we don’t have a bunch of appointments with one legislator If you know someone that is represented by the same legislator that is planning on attending Day at the Capitol, work together to avoid double booking.
