1 VOCABULARY THE INK-KEEPER’S APPRENTICE & JERRY PINKNEY

2 APPRENTICE After graduating fro college, I had the opportunity to apprentice downtown with a prestigious law firm. a person who is learning a job from an older, more experience person a person who is learning a job from another person who just graduated from college a person who is learning a job from an older, more experience person

3 NIB The nib of the writing utensil became dull after several hours of writing. a part of a baby bottle The tip of an ink pen

4 CONSOLATION The group worked so hard to win the contest and received a consolation prized instead. something that makes a disappointed person feel better a prize you win when you come in first place something that makes a disappointed person feel better

5 TIMIDLY The new student slowly and timidly came into the classroom. happily nervously

6 HIGHLIGHTS Highlights in a painting make the picture come alive from the light in the picture. the parts of a painting that makes the picture dull and gloomy the parts of a painting in which the light is brightest and most intense

7 INFLUENCE All the students in sixth grade have had a great influence on Ms. Hicks and Mrs. Muir to make the students the best they can be. something that has an effect on a person something that does not have an effect on a person something that has an effect on a person

8 TESTIMONY The witness gave sworn testimony during the trial. a sworn statement an unconfirmed statement a sworn statement

9 SPRINGBOARD Many of use someone we admire as a springboard to help us with new notions. Something that helps take down ideas something that helps launch ideas

10 COMMITMENT It take so much commitment to become college and career ready. not much perseverance dedication

11 CLIMATE The climate in our reading class is always positive and ready to learn. general attitude type of weather general attitude
