Shelter of Crete off Salone Fair Haven, near the city of Lasea Strong winds, storm Paul’s warning = not to sail !!! Predict the disaster, loss of cargos, ship and lives and warning against sail Centurion: not listen to Paul but yielded to helmsman and owner of the ship The majority opinion ; sail to Phoenix (Harbor of Crete)

Take Home Points(1) Majority opinion can be wrong ! Majority opinion can not be right all the time !

Acts 27:27,Paul (2) Euloclydon:the tempestuous head wind Shelter of Clauda Shipwreck : throw away the cargos, ship’s tackle Paul’s words:1.take heart 2. no loss of life 3.loss of the ship

Take Home Point When the disaster hits, At the time of Real Emergency, under the circumstance of no time to lose, Hang onto the only really important thing to you. Ask this Question? What is dearest to your own heart and soul ?

The very next action at the time of real Emergency is dependent on what is the dearest thing to own heart. What is inside of yourself will come out spontaneously ( without inhibition or restraint) at the time of real Emergency. Emergency = no cover up, surface peeled, mask removed, make up removed, = real self revealed,

The dearest to your heart Action Mind Body

inside outside

Take Home Points(2) At the time of Emergency, You must dump, or throw away,or remove any unnecessary, non-essential materials from you in order to lighten the load, burden, or weight just to save your own life in a hurry ! Time of Emergency, no time to lose ! Act immediately or too late for any thing

Important Question(1) What is really essential material to you ? Really important material to you = what ?

Important Question(2) What do you run away with you in your hand at the time of real Emergency ? What do you grab in your own hands when you run away for your own life at the time of Emergency ?

Important Question(3) It is really sobering question for everyone to think about and act. It is important to know what kind decision you make today because The decision for today determines the direction of course for tomorrow.

Decision and destiny (1) Your decision determines your destiny !

Decision and destiny (2) decision Destiny

Acts 27:27,Paul (3) Day 14 (from the time of shipwreck) At Midnight the sailor sensed that they are drawing near the some land Midnight : salvation, life not death,(+) Sailors : attempt to escape from the ship! Paul’s word:" Unless you stay in the ship, you can not be saved” The soldier cut the rope of the skiff ( no way of escape, no other alternative)

skiff A small light boat for one person to row

Many choices = many decisions to make No alternative = one decision to make one direction to go

Acts 27:27,Paul (4) Day 14 th: Paul’s instruction and recommendation to his fellow soldiers, prisoners and others; take nourishment (eat ) for this is for your survival Paul gave thanks to God in the presence of all and ate the bread under the difficult circumstances (shipwreck) The total number of persons on board= 276 All ate and encouraged

Acts 27:27,Paul (5) After the meal and threw away the foods (cargo) into the sea to lighten the ship Fatal shipwreck near the land Everyone (100 %) got to the island safely either by boards or swimming 100 % survival as Paul’s prediction

Centurion’s kindness At the time of shipwreck and impending disaster and chaos, The soldiers’ plan= kill all the prisoners. Reason=They are afraid of prisoners swimming away and escape, taking advantage of the confusion and disorder The centurion’s plan= ‘No’ to the soldiers, do not kill the prisoners The real reason= he wanted to save Paul (one of many prisoners on board)

Take home point Because of the centurion’s kindness and thoughtfulness, Paul’s life was saved for the time being. Never forget people’s kindness and thoughtfulness during your life journey.

The centurion’s order 1.Those who can swim= jump overboard and swim to the land 2.Those who can not swim= some on board, some on broken pieces of the ship toward the land for safety.

Take home Point Survival requires action. By boards = hanging onto things floating or floatable= piggy bag or join in or cash into something dependable, something reliable, something firm, something solid. Something stable. you are not in power. you are not in driving seat. you are not in charge. somebody else in charge of your life. By swimming = you do your part, own effort, use up all available skills and resources

Acts 27:27,Paul (6) Day 14, midnight: salvation Time= midnight Date =day 14 Signs of relief, release, salvation, safety, life, (+) Result:100 % (sailors, soldiers,prisoners,centurion) were saved Swimming-to the island Woods, boards (makeshift boat)-to the island The angel of the Lord “ Do not fear, do not be afraid “

Paul’s witness on Malta(1) The natives showed kindness and kindled a fire and welcomed all the unscheduled visitors from the shipwreck The circumstance= 1. rain 2.cold Paul gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire A viper came out of it because of the heat and fastened on his hand He shook off the viper into the fire and suffered no harm.

Acts 28:1-10 The island’s natives thought= “ no doubt, this man is a murderer, though he has escaped the sea ( the shipwreck), justice does not allow him to live” They are expecting that Paul would swell up or suddenly fall down dead But after they had looked at Paul for a long time and saw no harm came to him, They changed their minds and said that he is a god Reference Acts 28:1-10

Publius(1) Publius=the leading citizen of the island He treated and entertained the people courteously for three days The father of Publius = suffered from fever and dysentery (acute infectious gastroenteritis ) Paul prayed and laid his hands on the sick man and healed him!

Publius(2) When this was done, The rest of those on the island who had diseases= also came to Paul and were healed The end result of Paul’s witness on the island The native provided such things as necessary when they departed from the island

Take home point Medical missionary work is an entering wedge and a right hand of gospel ministry Very interesting formula= when your body’s illness is healed, or physical needs are met, people are more open to something spiritual and are willing to listen to what you have to say.

Medical missionary work(1) the Lord's providences that the medical missionary work is to be a great entering wedge, whereby the diseased soul may be reached.--Counsels on Health, p. 535. {CME 7.1}

Medical missionary work(2) Do medical missionary work. Thus you will gain access to the hearts of the people. The way will be prepared for more decided proclamation of the truth. You will find that relieving their physical suffering gives an opportunity to minister to their spiritual needs. {CME 7.2}

Medical missionary work(3) The Lord will give you success in this work, for the gospel is the power of God unto salvation, when it is interwoven with the practical life, when it is lived and practiced. The union of Christlike work for the body and Christlike work for the soul is the true interpretation of the gospel.--An Appeal for the Medical Missionary College, pp. 14, 15. {CME 7.3}

Medical missionary work(4) The Right Hand of the Gospel Medical missionary work is the right hand of the gospel. It is necessary to the advancement of the cause of God. Testimonies, Vol. 7, p. 59.

It Opens Doors The right hand is used to open doors through which the body may find entrance. This is the part the medical missionary work is to act. It is to largely prepare the way for the reception of the truth for this time. A body without hands is useless. In giving honor to the body, honor must also be given to the helping hands, which are agencies of such importance that without them the body can do nothing. Therefore the body which treats indifferently the right hand, refusing its aid, is able to accomplish nothing. --Medical Ministry, p. 238. {CME 9.1}

Medical missionary work
