2   The Olympic games is the largest comprehensive international sports competitions, which are held every four years.  The tradition of the Olympic games, which existed in Ancient Greece, originated as part of a religious cult. Games were held from 776 B.C. in 394 ad (a total of 293 Olympic games in Olympia, considered among the Greeks sacred place. From Olympia occurred and the name of the Game.  Winners of competitions are revered as heroes in the war. The first documented celebration refers to 776 BC. At the time the games were declared sacred truce, at that time it was impossible to wage war, although it has been repeatedly violated. After Christianity became the official religion, the games were seen as a manifestation of paganism, and in 394 A.D. they were forbidden by the Emperor Theodosius I.  The Olympic idea and after the ban antique competition is not gone for good. 3   The modern Olympic games were revived in the late nineteenth century French public figure Pierre de Coubertin. 11   XIV Olympic games were held in London in the UK. This is the first Olympic games after a 12 year break, caused by world war II. The previous games were held in Berlin; in 1940 were cancelled Games in Helsinki, and in 1944 Games in London.  Olympic games 1948 became known as "Severe Games". 13   The best female athlete of the XIV Olympiad was recognized Netherland athlete Fanny Blankers-Koen, who won four gold medals. She won all the running of the programme. "Damn it! 14  Blankers-Koen was a unique phenomenon in athletics. Four times she won the title of champion of Europe in the sprint and the hurdles, many times was set world records not only in the running of the program, but in the long jump and high.  For sports feats blankers-Koen, was erected a statue in her honor in her native Amsterdam.

15  Three medals received in London by French pianist Micheline ostermeyer: in the discus and shot put gold in the high jump bronze.  In football, a celebrated success Sweden, led drums trio GRE-no-Li part Gunnar Gren, Gunnar nordalya and Nils of lidholm.

18 The opening ceremony took place on 27 July on the new, specially built for the games, 80-seat Olympic stadium and was called "Island of miracles". The Director of the ceremony is Oscar Danny Boyle. The game was opened by Queen Elizabeth II.

19  The Olympic flame traveled from mount Olympus to London, beating the entire world and even the cosmos, but now it had to be delivered to the arena. It took the former England captain David Beckham who has brought him on a boat on the Thames.  Torch David gave Steven Redgrave, the renowned British gribetu, the owner of gold medals at five consecutive Olympic games.

21  Sergey Kirdyapkin, Russia has won the race walking on 50 kilometers, setting an Olympic record.  Arsen Galstyan, Russia - became the Olympic champion in judo, won a clear victory over the Japanese.

22  Yuri Postrigay and Alexander Dyachenko, Russia - became Olympic Champions in kayaking pair.  Roman Vlasov, Russia - became the Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, winning in the finals of the sportsman from Armenia.
