The Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea
A rocky landscape surrounded by the sea. Also made up of over 400 islands
A sheltered place along a coast
Because farmers could not produce big grain surpluses and land was hard to travel on
Athens and Sparta Athens was ruled by a type of government called an Democracy. They also had a strong Navy. They became very wealthy during the “Golden Age” Colonies paid their navy for protection. Sparta had a strong military and once joined with Athens to defeat the Persians but eventually became jealous of Athens’ power and defeated them as well.
When a small group of the richest, most powerful citizens controlled decision making.
Read and Write. They forgot their language because they only had time for survival.
