Johnny and AIT
There once was an elephant named Johnny. He lived in a small house near the train station. Johnny loved to go swimming and play baseball.
Johnny also liked to go to school. He really loved to play outside and make things in the art room.
But there was something that Johnny did not like! Sometimes things were really LOUD! Loud noises really HURT his ears! His whole body felt funny, and his ears hurt a lot! When there was a loud noise, Johnny wanted to run and hide somewhere, but he didn’t know where to go.
When his Mom talked too loud, or sneezed, or laughed, Johnny would sometimes cry or yell. His Mom didn’t like it when Johnny yelled!
Johnny didn’t like loud noises at school either. Sometimes during music, Johnny worried that his ears would hurt. Johnny wanted to tell his teachers that his ears hurt, but sometimes he didn’t know how.
One day Johnny’s Mom and Dad took him to a neat place called AIT to help his ears feel better. At AIT he listened to music on really big headphones and sat in a really comfy chair. The headphones felt funny at first, but after awhile Johnny liked them. The music started making him feel really good. Johnny started to go to AIT twice a day for 10 days.
Johnny’s mom and Dad made him a special quiet place at home with pillows and blankets and fun toys. They told him to always tell someone if a loud noise was bothering his ears. They said he could go to his quiet place anytime a loud noise was bothering him. Johnny liked his quiet place! When there was a loud noise, he went there and it made him feel much better. He didn’t have to cry, yell or scream anymore.
Johnny really liked to go to AIT and to listen to the very big head phones. He began to go to his quiet place less and less. The noises were not bothering his ears as much! When loud noises did bother Johnny he would tell someone. If he needed to, he could go into a quiet place that really helped him feel much better.
Johnny was very happy that he could now tell people how his ears felt! His Mommy and Daddy were very proud of Johnny. And best of all, Johnny was happy because his ears were finally feeling better!
