3 Development of Norms Norms are: Commitments to act or behave in certain ways. The standard of behavior by which we agree to operate while we are on this team. Norms define: “How we will do things around here.”

4 Sample Norms – Communicate openly and honestly – Listen to all ideas and respect others’ opinions – Honor agreements, timelines, and responsibilities – Agree to disagree, agreeably – Be willing to share – Make decisions by consensus

5 What is Consensus? We have arrived at consensus when all points of view have been heard and the will of the group is evident, even to those who most oppose it.

8 Superintendent’s Advisory Committee Plan Criteria  Provide the best possible learning opportunities for all students.  Ensure that all schools will be utilized to the greatest extent possible in order to maximize all resources at each facility.  Minimize additional expenses to transportation, modifications to school site facilities, and/or programs.  Changes should consider likely future boundary changes due to growth/declining enrollment or as new schools are constructed.  Provide minimum disruption of the educational program for each student and school.  Attempt to minimize staff displacement and disruption.  Achieve wide support from the community.  Make the optimal effort to avoid splitting siblings between schools.

10 Steps in Elementary Boundary Revisions Meet with sub-committees. Formulate alternative plans as a group. Individually formulate new alternative plans. Discuss pros and cons of potential plans (sub-committees). Develop sub-committee recommendation. Present sub-committee recommendations to entire committee. Entire committee will develop recommendation to the Superintendent. Superintendent takes boundary revision recommendations to Board of Trustees for approval.
