Secure in our Salvation? How understanding God’s revealed nature aids our Christian walk
Matt. 18: 27, 32 – 27: The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. 32: Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to’…
Psalms 32:1-2 – Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. Psalms 85: 2 – You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. Isaiah 44:22 – I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.
Psalm 103: – He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
1 John 1: 9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 2 Peter 3: 9 – The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Monotheism: The doctrine or belief that there is but one God. Belief in the existence of one god. It is not prayer to one god out of many, worship of one god out of many, or highest deference to one god out of many or three.
God’s revealed nature The Bible is clear: There is only one God Isaiah 43:10 – You are my witnesses, declares the Lord, and y servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. Mark 12:29 - …Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. James 2:19 – You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.
Short list of Monotheists Adam Noah Moses Joshua David Daniel Elijah Isaiah Peter James John Matthew Paul Luke
The Bible is clear: There are 3 called God in the Bible: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Short list of Triune believers: John Thomas Peter Paul Moses Elijah
The Father as God Isaiah 63:16 – But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or acknowledge us; you, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer, from of old is your name. Matthew 11:27 – All things have been committed to Me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. John 17:5 – And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began.
Galatians 4: 4-6 – But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, Abba, Father. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only (only begotten) Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The Son as God John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:18 – No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known. John 20:28 – Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 1 John 5:20 – We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true – even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
Matthew 16:15-17 – “But what about you,” He asked, “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar (son of) Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by My Father in heaven. Romans 9:5 – Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen. 1 Corinthians 12:3 – Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
Colossians 1:13-17 – For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness, and brought us into His kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
Philippians 2:5-7 – Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
The Holy Spirit as God Acts 5: 3-4 – Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.”
Matthew 12:28 – “But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” Luke 11:13 – “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” John 14:26 – “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 – And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
The Father and the Son 1 Corinthians 8:6 – yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
The Three Together Luke 1:35 – The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 – May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
1 Peter 1:1-2 – Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to God’s elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood. Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
Mark 1: 9-11 – At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
The Great Commission Matthew 28:19 – “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
