6 Subscription Databases  What are Databases ?  Databases are organized, searchable electronic records on a particular item, such as a journal article  Databases vary in the topics they cover and the information they provide. 8 CINAHL  About CINAHL  The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature indexes and abstracts articles published in more than 2,700 English-language nursing and allied health journals as well as virtually all publications of the American Nurses’ Association and the National League for Nursing.  Fields of allied heath covered include cardiopulmonary technology, emergency service, health education, medical/laboratory, medical assistant, medical records, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, radiologic technology, social service/health care, and surgical technology.  CINAHL also includes references to new books, book chapters, pamphlets, audiovisuals, dissertations, and other materials  Coverage begins in 1982 and updating is monthly.

14 Interlibrary Loan  What is Interlibrary Loan ?  It is a reciprocal borrowing system among institutions.  When do I use it ?  Mercy Libraries will get any book or article that we do not own on loan for you, providing a library within the region owns it. You must return the book, the article is yours to keep.  How long does it take ?  Approximately 3-10 days  How much does it cost ?  This service is free Items borrowed from other Mercy Libraries are System Loans.

15 System Loan  What is it ?  A system loan is a request from one Mercy Library to another  When do I use it ?  If you need an item – book or article, from a another Mercy. Complete a system loan request form at the circulation desk of your home library, and the item will be sent there to you  How long does it take ?  Approximately 2-3 days

17 Cochrane  About Cochrane  The Cochrane Library provides up-to-date information on the effects of interventions in health care.  Cochrane reviews explore the evidence for and against the effectiveness and appropriateness of treatments (medications, surgery, education, etc.) in specific circumstances.  The Library contains several databases, one of which is a collection of full-text articles reviewing the effects of heath care (the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews). The other databases (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews, and others) provide citations and abstracts. Updating is quarterly.

20 Medline/PubMed  About Medline/PubMed  PubMed provides access to bibliographic citations and abstracts for articles from more than 5,000 biomedical journals in 37 languages and includes MEDLINE back to the 1940's as well as additional life sciences journals. Approximately 80% of the citations contain in-depth abstracts written by the article’s author and about 75% of the indexed articles are published in English.  Subjects covered include medicine, nursing, pharmacy, allied health, veterinary medicine, the health care system, health administration, dentistry, and the preclinical sciences. The database is updated 5 times a week. NOTE: PubMed on the Mercy College Libraries' web page has been customized to include a filter and links to journals subscribed to online and in print format by the Libraries. To access these Mercy holdings directly you must use the link to PubMed on the library web page.

ADAM  Grey Literature in Public Health Pamphlets and longer reports about health policy issues in New York and beyond, searched through the New York Academy of Medicine library's catalog. Harrison's Online Detailed, comprehensive textbook of medical conditions and treatments, for health science students. Grey Literature in Public Health Harrison's Online  Merck Manuals This Merck site includes access to the following manuals: Diagnosis and Therapy, Geriatrics, Health & Aging, Medical Information, and Veterinary Healthcare, as well as the index of the chemists' encyclopedia.
