1 SQA Examinations 2013 The Waid Academy 1 Essential Information & Guidance for Candidates

3 3 Issues prior to examinations All candidates should: –Check dates & time of exams –Check materials that are required for exams –Check supplied individual timetables –DO NOT use SQA official timetable – changes may have been made ‘locally’ Change of Address –If you are moving house or change your address you MUST inform the school – SQA will be informed

4 Transport Arrangements Normal transport arrangements apply for the exam period BUT 3 rd June is a holiday and 4 th June is an in-service day – no school buses will operate – you will have to use public transport – you can use your bus pass YOU MUST CHECK BUS TIMETABLES SO THAT YOU ARRIVE FOR YOUR EXAM ON TIME

5 Issues during exam period Your Scottish Candidate Number SCN is required on ALL answer booklets –You can take this SCN card into the exam Mobile phones, iPods, MP3 players MUST NOT be brought into school Music through earphones is strictly forbidden by the SQA Exam equipment 5

6 Issues during exam period Calculators are NOT permitted during non- calculator exams No notes, folders, books are allowed in the exam room – leave these at home or in a locker You can take WATER into the exam room – there must be NO LABEL on the bottle 6

7 Illness & Lateness If you are ill and cannot attend exam –Telephone the school immediately –Medical certificate from doctor to cover day(s) of exam must be brought into school as soon as possible –The school will complete the SQA paperwork and send this to the SQA If you feel ill during an exam – tell the invigilator immediately 7

8 Lateness If you are late for an exam you may not be allowed into the exam room and may miss that paper Make sure you arrive well before each exam starts Do not disturb other classes whilst waiting for your exam to start UNIFORM must be worn during exams and at all times when you are in school 8

9 Exam arrangements Pupils who get extra time for exam will be notified by the invigilator on the day of the exam Co-incident exams – some pupils may have two exams at the same time – alternative arrangements will be made for you to sit one of your exams –You will have supervised breaks and lunches –Bring your lunch with you 9

10 Exam arrangements A copy of the rooming and seating arrangements will be posted daily on the board outside the assembly hall 10

11 Exam arrangements Access to lockers will be restricted –No access at interval or lunchtime when exams are on Pupils must obey instructions from staff who will close off corridors – janitors, admin & support staff Pupils must keep noise levels to a minimum whilst in school corridors 11

12 Study Leave Study Leave for S4 begins on Thursday 25th April Pupils should come into school for their exam only Pupils are allowed to come into school to study/seek help from teachers BUT MUST sign in and out at reception All pupils should return the tear-off slip from the Study Leave letter to the office 12

13 Study Leave Study Leave for S5/6 begins on Tuesday 7 th May-Last day Friday 3 rd May Pupils should come into school for their exam only Pupils are allowed to come into school to study/seek help from teachers BUT MUST sign in and out at reception Masterclass All pupils should return the tear-off slip from the Study Leave letter to the office 13

14 After the exams Return of books –Pupils who are leaving must return books Leavers forms will be available from Monday 27th May for pupils who are 16 before 1 st October 2013 Pupils who are 16 between 1 st October 2013 and 28 th February 2014 CANNOT leave school 14

15 New Timetable Return for New S5– Monday 27th May – Induction New timetable commences – Tuesday 28 th May Return for New S6– Wednesday 5 th June– New timetable 15

16 Exam Results Results posted Monday 5 th August Arrive Tuesday 6 th August Register for MySQA by 5pm on 9 th July and activate account by 5 pm on 17 th July Results by e-mail or text by 9 am on Tuesday 6 th August Any problems with results – contact school Tuesday 6 th August 16
