2 AP BIOLOGY 1.THIS IS A COLLEGE LEVEL BIOLOGY COURSE. IT IS THE SAME TEXT BOOK USED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO. 2.THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS AND SENIORS.

3 AP BIOLOGY CONTINUED 3. This class has awesome labs and lots of hands on activities. 4. The homework requirement is approximately 1 hour every night with a possibility of up to 2 hours. 5. This course requires self-motivation and drive to succeed. 6. This course requires that you be able to read and comprehend difficult vocabulary and concepts.

5 This class is for highly- motivated students with an interest in some aspect of the medical field. It is a lab-based class that includes dissections. Students need to have a grade of C or better in Biology. This is a college level class. We use the same text as Colorado Mesa University. ANATOMY/PHYSIOLOGY

6 Labs include analyzing hair and cheek cells, fingerprinting, dissecting cats, making slides for microscope use and efficiently using microscopes. Homework includes learning vocabulary and studying for tests. Classroom attendance is critical.

8 AP Environmental Science An interdisciplinary course drawing on other science courses Goal is to – Understand the interrelationships in the natural world – Identify and analyze environmental problems – Evaluate risks associated with the problems – Examine solutions

9 AP Environmental Science Designed to be the equivalent of a 1-semester introductory college course in environmental science Taught as two block classes (quarters 1 and 2) and a semester class (semester 2) Includes laboratory experiments, research projects, and field trips Prerequisites: geophysical science, biology, chemistry, and one year of algebra OR strong recommendation from a previous science teacher

16 Requirements First year Chemistry Concurrent Enrollment in Pre-Calculus or Calculus Willingness to work hard Teacher Recommendation

17 What to Expect 1.A rigorous course that will definitely challenge you 2.Content builds on first year: more in- depth on first year topics + 4 new topics 3.Interesting labs/Team approach 4.Homework: 1-2 hours per night 5. One semester block, and one semester skinny. (1.5 Credits)

18 AP Chemistry is one of the hardest AP courses, but the rewards are significant. AP Chemistry is definitely one of the hardest AP Courses and not for the faint of heart. HOWEVER, the rewards are significant:

19 Freshman chemistry is the flunk out course for first year science, math, and engineering students. If you take this course, even if you don’t pass the exam, you will be well prepared and have an advantage in freshman college chemistry. You can earn 4-8 college credits depending on your test score, lab book, and the school.
