Igneous rocks are formed when lava from volcanoes cools and hardens above earth’s surface or when magma cools and hardens above earth’s surface Sedimentary rocks are formed when elements wear rock down into tiny particles of dust. They are moved around by wind, rain or water where they are compacted and cemented together to form layers. Metamorphic rocks are igneous or sedimentary rocks that change after being exposed to extreme heat and pressure. The Rock Cycle is when rocks undergo changes that make them turn into a different type rock. A person that studies rocks is called a Paleontologist.
