1.You take it personally. “I am not enough.” “I am a failure/horrible person.” “God must hate me.” “God has forgotten me.”

The Unstoppable Downward Spiral from Boundaries in Leadership, by Henry Cloud 1.You take it personally. “I am not enough.” “I am a failure/horrible person.” “God must hate me.” “God has forgotten me.” 2. You make it pervasive. “I can’t trust anyone.” “Nobody understands me/gets me.” “I’m the only one.” “God doesn’t really care.”

The Unstoppable Downward Spiral from Boundaries in Leadership, by Henry Cloud 1.You take it personally. “I am not enough.” “I am a failure/horrible person.” “God must hate me.” “God has forgotten me.” 2. You make it pervasive. “I can’t trust anyone.” “Nobody understands me/gets me.” “I’m the only one.” “God doesn’t really care.” 3. You think it’s permanent. “It will never change.” “It’s always going to be like this.” “There’s no way out.” “This is what my life is destined to be.” “My faith was a lie.” “God must not exist, or if He does, He is powerless or unwilling to change anything.”

John 18:4 (NLT) 4 Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked.

John 18:5a (NLT) 5 “Jesus the Nazarene,” they replied…

John 18:5 (NLT) 5 “Jesus the Nazarene,” they replied. “I Am he,” Jesus said. (Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.)

I AM He = “ego eimi” “ I, I AM” the Divine Name YHWH

John 18:6 (NLT) 6 As Jesus said “I Am he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground!

John 18:7-9 (NLT) 7 Once more he asked them, “Who are you looking for?”And again they replied, “Jesus the Nazarene.” 8 “I told you that I Am he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.” 9 He did this to fulfill his own statement: “I did not lose a single one of those you have given me.”

John 18:10-11 (NLT) 10 Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s slave. 11 But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”

The Unstoppable Downward Spiral from Boundaries in Leadership, by Henry Cloud 1.You take it personally. Log your negative thoughts and dispute them with Truth. eg. “I am a failure.”  “I am complete in Christ.” 2. You make it pervasive. Write down evidence that it is NOT pervasive. List things that are going well. Things that are unaffected/ “Things I can’t control” vs. “Things I can control.” Make a plan and do it. “Your life is a movie, not a scene.” 3. You think it’s permanent. Get help. Open up. Lean on community.
